Towers to Discuss Opiate Drug Use During Pregnancy Friday, September 28

Craig Towers, professor of maternal-fetal medicine and vice chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, will present “Opiate Drug Use During Pregnancy” at the next UT Science Forum Friday, September 28.

The epidemic of opiate addiction afflicting the United States today includes a tragic number of pregnant women.  In his talk, Towers will discuss opiate addiction and drug use during pregnancy and cover the number of cases; how these women came to use opiate drugs; the problems they face during prenatal care; and the risks and benefits of detoxification off of opiate drugs during the course of the pregnancy.

The UT Science Forum takes place Friday, September 28 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Thompson-Boling Arena Cafe, Room A (located at 1600 Phillip Fulmer Way). Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch or purchase it from the Arena. Each presentation is followed by a Q&A. The event is free and open to the public
