The Hazards of Unwinding the Opioid Epidemic: Evidence from child abuse, March 4

Matt Harris, associate professor of economics at Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, UT Haslam College of Business, will present “The Hazards of Unwinding the Opioid Epidemic: Evidence from child abuse,” Friday, March 4 at 12 p.m. via Zoom.

The prescription opioid epidemic had far-reaching consequences in all aspects of our society.  While reducing opioid prescriptions is necessary, early measures such as the reformulation of OxyContin, led some dependent individuals to substitute uncontrolled substances. In his presentation, Professor Harris will share how his team uses  pre-reformulation variation and prescription opioid volume to show how these measures, and their induced substitution, had adverse consequences for kids.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
