A New Spin on Structural Control: Translating Toys into Earthquake Protection, Feb. 24

Join us Friday, Feb. 24 for “A New Spin on Structural Control: Translating Toys into Earthquake Protection,” a presentation by Nick Wierschem, UT associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, at noon via Zoom.

Rotational inertial mechanisms are a relatively new class of structural control devices that have been inspired by spinning top toys and salad spinners. In his presentation, Professor Wiershem will describe how these devices work and how they are being studied to protect structures from extreme events like earthquakes.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Once registered, you will receive an email with information about joining the meeting via Zoom.

Register today for the Feb. 24 Science Forum lecture.
