A Skin-Eating Fungus Threatens Salamander Species, Oct. 22

Doctoral Students Davis Carter and Wesley Sheley will present “A Skin-Eating Fungus Threatens Salamander Species” Friday, October 22 at noon via Zoom.

A recently discovered fungal organism has caused massive die-offs in salamander species in Europe through infecting and damaging their skin. This organism has not yet been identified in North America; however, it is likely only a matter of time. In their presentation, Carter, a doctoral student in the UT Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries, along with Wesley Sheley, a doctoral student in comparative and experimental medicine, as well as a doctor of veterinary medicine, will discuss the fungal organism and what scientists are doing to manage the fungus, if (or when) it arrives on our shores.

The presentation is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
